The study, based on Yext’s Scout Index, zeroes in on factors tied to Local Pack performance rather than general map listings.
The most consistent finding: reviews dominate. Yext describes review engagement as “the most consistent driver of Local Pack visibility across all industries and regions.” At the top of the ranking factors were review-related signals—review volume, frequency of new reviews, and owner responses. Businesses with a steady stream of positive reviews and quick replies from owners consistently outperform competitors.

While reviews matter most, other ranking factors vary by vertical:

Geography further shapes the picture. For example, businesses in the Northeast appear less sensitive to traditional SEO levers, while those in the South and West are more negatively affected by delayed review responses.
